Development of National Biodiversity CHM Strategy
Kenya has taken a significant step towards strengthening biodiversity information management with the development of a National Biodiversity Clearing-House Mechanism (CHM) Strategy and Action Plan for the period 2026–2030. Led by the National Environment Management Authority the initiative aims to enhance coordination, data sharing, and access to biodiversity information across sectors.
The strategy is aligned with the Convention on Biological Diversity and supports implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It will provide a structured platform for integrating biodiversity data from government institutions, research organizations, and stakeholders, while improving national reporting and decision-making. Stakeholders from various sectors have been actively engaged through consultative workshops, ensuring the strategy reflects national priorities and practical needs. Once finalized, the CHM Strategy is expected to play a critical role in supporting Kenya’s biodiversity conservation efforts and sustainable development agenda.
