Kenya's Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory: Tracking Climate Action
Kenya has developed strong policies, laws, and institutions to monitor, report, and verify efforts to address climate change. A key part of these efforts is the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory, which tracks the country’s progress in reducing emissions.
In 2020, Kenya updated its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), identifying GHG emissions as the main measure of progress in fighting climate change. To support this, Kenya is building a robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system. This system ensures the country can track its progress toward meeting its NDC goals, the primary guide for its climate response.
So far, Kenya has prepared two GHG inventories as part of its first and second National Communications. This third inventory is included in the first Biennial Transparency Report, the initial Biennial Update Report, and the third National Communication.
