World Rainforest Day 2026
he Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, under the auspices of Cabinet Secretary Dr Deborah Mlongo and the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Forestry, Gitonga Mugambi, CBS, cordially invites members of the public to join in commemorating World Rainforest Day.
Theme: The Forest Within You
Location: Lianugu Forest Block, Kakamega Rainforest
Time: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Date: Monday, June 22, 2026
As Kenya's only tropical rainforest, the Kakamega Forest is a vital biodiversity hotspot that supports essential climate regulation, ensures water security, and sustains the livelihoods of surrounding communities.
The day is intended to be a collective effort to celebrate, protect, and restore our forests for both present and future generations. Your participation represents a meaningful contribution to the national goal of achieving 30% tree cover by 2032. Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities, including guided conservation walks to experience the unique flora and fauna of this invaluable ecosystem, a community tree-planting drive to restore the Lianugu Forest Block, and interactive briefings with conservationists and Ministry leadership regarding the future of our indigenous forests.
We look forward to welcoming you to the heart of the forest as we unite to secure a greener, more resilient future for all Kenyans.
