Hell's Gate National Park is situated to the south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya, north-west of Nairobi. This park derives its name from a narrow break in the cliffs, which was once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that sustained early human communities in the Rift Valley. Established in 1984, it may be small in size, but it boasts an impressive array of wildlife and captivating scenery. Key features include Fischer's Tower, Central Tower columns, and the striking Hell's Gate Gorge. Notably, the park is also home to five geothermal power stations at Olkaria, showcasing a fascinating blend of nature and technology.

Nestled within the Great Rift Valley, Hell's Gate National Park is renowned for its dramatic landscapes. Towering cliffs, water-carved gorges, rugged rock formations, volcanic peaks adorned with scrub vegetation, and billowing geothermal steam vents combine to create an atmospheric setting, making it one of Africa's most captivating parks. Beyond its natural beauty, Hell's Gate offers a range of activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and wildlife observation.

The park owes its name to the remarkable geothermal activity within its boundaries. It provides a unique window into the Earth's geothermal processes, adding to its allure. Visitors can embark on a day trip from Nairobi to experience the park's biodiversity, which includes raptors among its many inhabitants. Adventurous souls can indulge in mountain biking, rock climbing, and even enjoy a natural spa experience.

Wildlife enthusiasts will find a variety of animals here, including African buffalo, zebras, eland, hartebeest, Thomson's gazelle, and baboons. Additionally, Hell's Gate National Park is home to klipspringer antelope and Chandler’s mountain reedbuck. Birdwatchers will delight in the park's prolific birdlife, with over 100 species of birds recorded. Notable sightings include vultures, Verreaux's Eagles, augur buzzards, and swifts, making it a haven for ornithologists and nature enthusiasts alike.
