NBSAP national Targets Review Workshop held at Sawela lodge in Naivasha

Overview: The NBSAP National Targets Review Workshop, held at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha from October 23rd to 27th, 2023, aimed to assess and refine national biodiversity targets. The workshop was organized by MECCF and brought together various stakeholders, including Wetlands International, IUCN, Conservation International (CI), UNEP, TNC, and Head MEAs.

Day 1: The first day began with registration and introductions by Faith Nyokabi Ng’ang’a. Opening remarks followed from key organizations, including Wetlands International, IUCN, CI, UNEP, TNC, and Head MEAs. The day included sessions on recapitulating SBSTTA 25, target setting, and a group activity to reformat targets. The day concluded with group presentations and a plenary Q&A session.

Day 2: Activities on the second day included a recap, a review of targets by Carolina Hazin, thematic working groups for target reviewing, and group work continuation. The day ended with group presentations and another plenary Q&A session.

Day 3: The third day focused on a recap, indicators alignment with targets, group work, and presentations. The day concluded with a plenary Q&A session.

Day 4: Day four involved registration, a recap by Kevin from GIZ, discussions on baseline data and sources, group work on target setting, and plenary Q&A sessions.

Day 5: The final day included registration, a recap by Pricilla Mutungi from WWF, compiling the first draft of targets, and the conclusion with a presentation of the compiled draft. The day ended with discussions on the way forward and closing remarks from various organizations.
