Target 14: Mainstreaming biodiversity across all sectors

By 2030, biodiversity values have been fully integrated into policies, regulations, planning processes, business strategies, poverty eradication interventions, fiscal and financial flows, strategic environmental assessments, environmental impact assessments, and all sectors with significant impacts on biodiversity, both at national and county levels, across public and private sectors

Mainstreaming biodiversity is a crucial aspect of sustainable development. Kenya has recognized the importance of biodiversity and has taken steps to integrate it into all sectors of the economy. The country’s constitution includes provisions related to environment and natural resource management, which has led to the development of new laws, policies, and other legal instruments at the national and county levels.

National Target 14 focuses on the comprehensive integration of biodiversity values into various aspects, including policies, regulations, planning processes, business strategies, and environmental assessments, at both the national and county levels. It further specifically addresses the financial dimension, emphasizing the importance of developing and implementing This strategy aims to align fiscal and financial flows across public and private sectors with the goals of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. By splitting the global target into these two national targets, Kenya ensures a more targeted and actionable approach, tailoring the integration of biodiversity into both policy frameworks and financial mechanisms to meet its unique national and regional needs.
