The restoration, maintenance and enhancement of ecosystem structures, functions and services is key to Kenya's national plans for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity - as shown in the target language. How these services will be restored, maintained, and enhanced includes the application of nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based approaches, and other innovative approaches - prioritized in the places mapped and evaluated to be the most important for providing ecosystem services. These actions are listed directly in the target to ensure that the activities are properly understood and sufficiently budgeted for. The outcomes of the restoration, maintenance and enhancement of the places providing these essential services include regulation of air, water and climate, soil health, pollination and reduction of disease risk, protection from natural hazards and disasters, and nature-based tourism activities - all of which will be tracked in the indicators for this target.
By 2030, restore, maintain and enhance nature’s contributions to people, including ecosystem functions and services, such as the regulation of air, water and climate, soil health, pollination and reduction of disease risk, as well as protection from natural hazards and disasters, through nature-based solutions and/or ecosystem-based approaches for the benefit of all people and nature
