Target 06: By 2030, reduce the establishment of invasive species by 50%

By 2030, reduce the establishment of invasive species by 50% by identifying and managing pathways of the introduction and eradication and/or control, especially in priority areas such as urban spaces, farmlands, forests, protected and conserved areas, rangelands, inland waters, coastal and marine ecosystems.

This target focuses on eliminating, minimizing, reducing or mitigating the impacts of invasive species by 50% by the year 2030 in two main ways: (a) by identifying and managing pathways to preventing their introduction and establishment and (b) by eradicating or controlling invasive species that have been introduced and established. Kenya will not only focus on alien invasive species but also native species which are known to cause similar threats to biodiversity and economic losses in different areas including farmlands, forests, protected areas, rangelands, inland waters, and coastal and marine ecosystems.
