World Environment Day 2024

We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land. World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. In Kenya, the event will be held in Embu County.

    This year's theme is emphasizing on our land for our future. We are #GenerationRestoration." It highlights the importance of restoring our land and emphasizes the role of the current generation in achieving this goal.

Host Country:

    The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the official World Environment Day celebrations on June 5th, 2024. This nation faces desertification challenges and is leading in finding solutions.

Focus Areas:

    The focus is on promoting land restoration efforts to combat land degradation and desertification.    Building resilience to droughts is another crucial aspect, as these events severely impact land health.

Connection to UN Decade:

    World Environment Day 2024 aligns with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). This decade-long initiative aims to protect and revive ecosystems worldwide, which is vital for achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
