FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT ACT

AN ACT of Parliament to provide for the conservation, management and development of fisheries and other aquatic resources to enhance the livelihood of communities dependent on fishing

This Act may be cited as the Fisheries Management and Development Act, 2016 and shall come into force on the fourteenth day after publication in the Gazette.

The objective of this Act is to protect, manage, use and develop the aquatic resources in a manner that is consistent with ecologically sustainable development, to uplift the living standards of the fishing communities and to introduce fishing to traditionally non-fishing communities and to enhance food security.
